Another two hotels at the Resort, Equarius Hotel and Spa Villas, will add another 500 rooms when they launch after 2010. Room and restaurant reservations will begin on Monday, January 11th, 2010
The phased schedule allows the Resort and its 10,000 employees to run in operations and deliver the expected guest experience, said Resorts World Sentosa’s chief executive Tan Hee Teck.He said: “We thank the team of agencies and government officials who have been working tirelessly to get us where we are today. We also have a top-class team of staffers, architects, consultants and contractors who pushed relentlessly to make this Resort open not only on time, but ahead of schedule. Partners who have visited are often surprised by the effort we have put into each of our attractions, each hotel, each performance. We concluded our first public event ChildAid in December with a bang. Today, we have taken it forward: We are getting ready to welcome our first visitors, and we look forward to their feedback to help us improve.”
Resorts World Sentosa is working closely with the authorities to obtain approvals for Universal Studios Singapore, which will open next. The opening date for the casino will be announced when it gets notice of its casino license.

What should you do if you have to cancel?
None of us plan or want to cancel, but sometimes things happen, and that’s why it’s a good idea to make sure to check into cancellation policies, especially if you are booking online.
If you booked online with a travel company, keep in mind, you need to talk with them first.
Your hotel or airline may not be able to do anything for you if it was booked from a travel company.
You might also want to consider purchasing travel insurance, which may be able to reimburse you for a loss of you need to cancel.
However, if you did not do this and now you need to cancel, here is what you might want to try:
• Cancel as early as possible and write down confirmation numbers and who you spoke with. You may need this later. By canceling early, hotels and airlines may be more willing to work with as they have extra time to re-book the room or flight.
• If a no refund or penalty fee applies, try to negotiate with a manager to see if they can waive these policies for certain reasons such as a death in the family, illness or weather related concerns.
• If you cannot get them to waive the fees, see if they will allow you to change the name on the booking. If this is allowed, you may be able to sell your vacation.
• Most important, remember to be polite and open minded, especially if you are asking them to make an exception for you.
What do you do if you have tried all of these things and have gotten nowhere?
• Ask to speak to a manager or contact the corporate office.
• Ask for a voucher that can be used in the future.
• If you paid with a credit card, contact the issuer. They may have policies to protect you against cancellation fees.

They say that half the enjoyment of going on a vacation is anticipating and planning it. Preparing your attire and packing for the cruise are part of that fun! The bottom line: Don’t get carried away! (Characteristically, first-time cruisers pack at least two times as many clothes as they need). One or two bathing suits, a duo of shorts and shirts, a few sets of nice casual wear, and a couple of more dressy outfits should work out just fine. Don’t overpack! Think in terms of basics. Save room for the things you’ll be buying (certainly) on your trip.
Once you conclude your list of things to take, stick to it. Too frequently people develop a superb list, only to take no notice of it during the actual packing. Caught up in the heat of the moment, they start tossing things into the suitcase with abandon. Usually these items are never used on the vacation.
Bring an attractive cover-up that will carry you elegantly from pool to cabin. Pack workout gear if you plan to take advantage of the health-club facilities onboard. On most cruise ships, the formal dress code for men requires a suit or tuxedo. Don’t go through the expense of buying a tuxedo if you don’t have one… a suit works just as well.
People often get carried away when it comes to shoes, which take up a bunch of luggage space. Try to bring just one pair of walking shoes, one pair of multipurpose casual shoes, and one pair of dressy shoes.
Pack some moisturized wipes. They will always come in handy, especially when cruising with children and while on shore excursions.
Because of the variety of food presented onboard the ship, you may be tempted to try different types of spicy foods for the first time. Pack an antacid, just in case!
On a cruise, women can get a lot of use out of leggings. Not only can they be dressed up or down very easily, but they can also be hand-washed.
Bring a night light to place in the bathroom or a small flashlight for use in the middle of the night. This will be especially useful for passengers with inside cabins.
If you wear glasses or contact lenses or take prescription medicine, pack extras, along with the prescriptions.
Don’t bring more than a couple of T-shirts. You will probably buy some in the ports of call or in the shops onboard the ship.

Men will find nylon swim shorts with pockets to be very versatile. They can be used as walking shorts, and they dry quickly.
Pack some toiletries and a change of clothing in one of your carry-on bags. In the event your check-in luggage is lost or stolen and does not arrive at the ship, you will have some essentials to keep you fresh for a couple of days.
Pack wrinkle-free clothing in the event the ship does not have an ironing room. Otherwise, you can give your clothing to your cabin steward to send to the laundry onboard the ship (but there is a cost for this service). If all else fails, hang your clothes in the bathroom, turn the shower to hot, and close the door. The steam will help eliminate the wrinkles.
EXTRA TIPS WHEN PACKING
Tie a closed identification tag with your name, cruise line and ship, and address and phone number to the handle of each piece of luggage, including your carry-on bags. As an additional means of identification, tape the above information inside of each piece of luggage in case the outside luggage tag gets torn off.
In most cases, you will be taken directly to your cabin when you embark on the ship. Your luggage may not arrive for two or three hours. Don’t panic. The crew members on the ship have nearly 3,000 pieces to sort and distribute— it takes time. If the ship is ready to sail and you have not yet received your bags, contact the purser’s desk or the housekeeping department to ask for assistance.
TRAVEL DOCUMENTS
Never pack cash, traveler’s checks, travel documents, prescription medicine, or other valuable items in your check-in luggage. Keep these with you in a secure carry-on bag.
EMBARKATION
Embarkation is a very busy time for the staff and crew members. When checking in at the cruise-ship terminal, have your entire cruise documents filled out and ready to hand to the staff. This will help to speed up the embarkation process immensely.
After your cruise documents have been checked, you will be told where to go to walk onto the ship. There is usually a photographer standing at the entrance of the ship, ready to snap a picture of you with your windblown hair, faded makeup, wrinkled clothing, and exhausted smile. Don’t worry, you can use that photograph as your “before” cruise picture!
If the ship’s crew members escort you to your cabin, it is always nice to tip them, but it is not a requirement. Just like hotel employees, these ladies and gentlemen are accustomed to receiving a couple of dollars for their service.
Once you have unpacked your clothing, get a small map of the ship and start exploring!
As soon as you get onboard, your cruise experience begins in a most welcome way: You will be offered a light meal or sometimes large buffet lunch in one of the restaurants.

One thing you will discover walking around Cancun, even in the hotel district, is that there are a bundle of holes in the ground — jagged sewer openings, random pits, gaps in the sidewalk, and so on. So watch your feet, and keep an eye on any small children.
There are basically no traffic lights. Traffic changes direction by circling around Y-shaped intersections that make it hard to keep track of what street you’re on. You have to find a break in the traffic and cross to an island in the central point of the street, and repeat once or twice until you reach the other side. Some of these islands have a long step down, so watch out when crossing them in the dark.
Along the main road downtown (Avenida Tulum), there are sporadic speed bumps that are very high. Traffic must slow to get over them, so you can safely walk across them and the traffic will stop.
Because of the Y-shaped and multi-way intersections, it is easy to take an unintentional detour. If the map shows you need to be on a definite side of the road, get to that side swiftly and you’ll have less probability of getting lost.
I didn’t feel insecure walking through any neighborhoods (although be cautious anywhere you are when walking at dark). The seedier places were at either end of Avenida Tulum (past Uxmal, or back past where you get off the bus). There were no dubious characters at all in the less busy southern part of the hotel zone (Plaza Kukulcan and south); lots of people walked by themselves at all times of night.
